Product Description
NATIONAL BESTSELLER A New York Times Book Review Best Book of the Year The Emperor’s Children is a richly drawn, brilliantly observed novel of fate and fortune—about the intersections in the lives of three friends, now on the cusp of their thirties, making their way--and not-- in New York City. In this tour de force, the celebrated author Claire Messud brings to life a city, a generation, and the way we live in this moment.

Kerri (USA: OH) (2008/04/25): OK, so I have a bachelor degree, but not in English. I'm not a stupid woman, but GEESH.... make sure you have a dictionary handy when you read this book!!! Amenuesis? I'd never heard that word in my life! There were DOZENS of words that were just way too big and clunky in this book. The story is fine, though the characters are not people I would ever, in a million years, want to meet, let alone hang out with.BTW: Amenuesis means 'secretary'.
Leslie (USA: MI) (2008/12/10): I agree with Kerry. I bought this book because the New York Times Book Review named it the Best Book of the Year I wasn't as thrilled as I thought I would be. The story is good but the book is too wordy for me. I was disappointed.
Melinda (USA: TX) (2009/02/11): i hated it!
maggie (USA: GA) (2009/03/25): I got caught up in the lives of these people (thirty-somethings) and really enjoyed this book. A good beach read for those headed out to spring break!
