Jen Sardam (USA: VA) (2008/07/25): This book is a fantastic read! Since it's told in such a personal way, you don't need to have any prior knowledge of Sudan and its conflicts.I hate to admit it, but other than hearing the phrase "Save Darfur" tossed around, I never knew any details of the bloodshed and heartaches the Sudanese had endured and which they continue to weather. I love these kinds of books, where you get a firsthand look at what's gone on in the life of another human being. Getting that perspective helps us to see the larger perspective of a culture or an issue. There was nothing dry about this story, and yet I became so much more aware This is marked as fiction, because, although it is the story of a real person who underwent the experiences detailed in the book, it was written by another person, well-known author Dave Eggers.
