Kathleen (USA: MN) (2009/08/22): I read this book at the urging of Oprah who chose it as one of her book club picks and raved about it. I hated this book! I thought this family was unrealistic. I disliked everyone in the story except the victim and she was a bit of a wimp! What family after their lovely young daughter and sister gets raped treats her like trash to be abandoned and thrown away? I wanted to throttle not just the nasty rapist but the father and mother as well.No, especially them! dbokal (USA: FL) (2010/04/14): Did not much care for the book. That is all I really have to say. I had heard such great things about Joyce Carol Oates, but I wish I had picked a better book to choose to read first, this is the only book of hers I have read, and it may be my last.
