This wonderful book has won so many awards, not only did it win the CARNEGIE MEDAL in Great Britain, but in the USA where it was published as A NORTHERN LIGHT it was awarded the PRINCE HONOR, won THE LOS ANGELES TIMES best book award, was named A JUNIOR LIBRARY GUILD SELECTION, A PUBLISHERS WEEKLY BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR, A SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL LIBRARY JOURNAL BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR, A BOOK SENSE 76 TOP TEN BOOKS FOR TEENS, etc., etc., etc.
I only mention this, because a few disgruntled teenagers -- who obviously did not like having to read this book in class -- vented their frustration by rating this book "zero".
