Reviews: lotuscandy (United Kingdom) (2010/03/31):
Many vampire/werewolf books say "Move over Bella" but this is the only new series that actually delivers what it promises: a new compelling teen heroine encountering a rich, challenging underworld.

samharnold (United Kingdom) (2014/06/18):
As previous reviews have commented this book is like marmite you seem to either love it or hate it. From my part I fall into the love it category. The initial idea for the book is very interesting and I love the idea that all the stories of vampires, werewolves and fairies are true. The initial positive for this book in my opinion is the depth of character development. The characters are well written and engaging this is especially true of the main character Clary. She is a likeable character. The other characters are very different and extremely well developed. Cassandra Clare shows great talent when writing teenagers into her story they are likeable and realistic without being that character that is too good to be true.

The story has a number of twists and turns which I enjoyed them all. Some of them were obvious and I saw through them but this did not spoil the story at all. There has been criticism that there is a part in the middle of the book that could have been edited out. Although I can see what other reviewers are saying I never felt this as I read through the book. The use of humour throughout the book was also engaging and being a person who uses sarcasm as a weapon I liked Jace's use of sarcasm throughout.

The story ends well and although I will be pursuing the story further I do not feel that I need to rush onto the next book. I like the fact that it is a story in its own right as well as part of a series.

Brilliant can't wait to see where the story develops too.
