MindyJoSchmid (USA: OH) (2007/12/18): My teenaged niece loaned me her copy of this book, after reading me some excerpts. I was not that entranced by the excerpts, that detail various kinds of parasites -- all apparently true information. However, when reading these bits interspersed in with the actual story, the book really coalesces into a grand read. The idea of vampirism as a virus has certainly been addressed before, but Westerfeld's take is one of the more interesting ones I have read lately. As an added bonus, this book -- being aimed at the young adult market -- does not have graphic sex scenes as some of the "vampire" series have. It is a book you can read and share with many age levels.
Elizabeth (USA: MD) (2010/04/28): This is a totally new take on vampires and I love how it alternates between what is going on and descriptions of parasites. No matter how scientific the material can get, Scott Westerfield manages to make everything a bit humorous, and easy to relate to and follow. He also doesn't glorify vampirism (no sparkly vampires here!).
