Chris (France) (2011/02/15): This is a classic written in about 1860.Blackmore haas a wonderful poetic style that describes the idyllic farmland of rural rugged Exmoor of a bygone age. It is the tale of an impossible love affair between a strong young yeoman farmer and his childhood unattainable sweetheart who is the imprisoned "princess" who lives trapped in a hidden valley. If you can stomach 40 words of prose where 12 will do then you will thoroughly enjoy this book. Otherwise it is a long hard slog but the climax is gripping.
